Set within 1.2 acres of gardens. 5 minutes from the town of St Hilaire du Harcouet on the crossroads of Normandy, Loire and Brittany.
La Gautrais is a traditional wooden, box-framed house that dates back to around 1750. It has been extended over the years and now forms a substantial and spacious family home set in the centre of over an acre of gardens.
The house has been beautifully and sensitively restored retaining all of its charm and character. The exposed wooden frame with cob and stone walls give the house and warm and welcoming feel.
The house benefits from new electrics, new plumbing, A+ rated double glazed windows and has been renovated to an extremely high standard.
Heating is provided by two wood burners and electric heaters.
Broadband is available.
La Gautrais is situated 5km from the busy market town of St Hilaire du Harcouet and sits on the borders of Normandy, Brittany and The Loire. The ferry ports of Caen, St Malo, Cherbourg, Le Havre and Roscoff are all within an easy drive and serve several locations along the South Coast of England. There are train links to Paris from Vire and Rennes (which also has a direct link to Paris CGD)
There’s a great deal to do in the area including cycling, horse riding and walking/running on over 7000km of trails in Manche alone. The area benefits from incredible sandy beaches that stretch for miles offering great days out as well as being able to experience the very real history of the D-Day landings. Sailing is available from a number of locations as well as trips to the Channel Islands and both sea and fresh water fishing.
The area is an excellent centre for food, especially cheese, beef, cider, Calva and fresh sea food including the famous oysters and fish direct from Cancal just along the coast. Oyster sellers come to St Hilaire every Sunday morning and sell top grade, fresh oysters.
